assistance FAQs

Do I have to participate in a work activity to receive cash assistance?

Yes. Anyone receiving Ohio Works First (OWF) cash assistance must sign a self sufficiency contract and work plan. You are required to participate in a work activity for a certain number of hours per week. Your contract and plan is a road map to help you become self sufficient so you will not need cash assistance. There are no exemptions to the work requirement and everyone has to participate. Your work activity assignments will be based on your individual circumstances.
