Assistance Food Stamps

The Food Stamp Program supplements the purchase power of people with low incomes to obtain nutritious food. Food Stamps are issued by the USDA through county job and family services agencies and are used to purchase specific staples and grocery items at participating grocery stores.

Eligibility

We look at your gross monthly income (before taxes) and your resources, to determine if you may qualify for food stamps.

Resource Limits

Resources are things that you own and have access to such as checking, savings accounts, stocks, bonds, 2nd homes, recreational vehicles, etc.

  • The resource limit for regular Food Stamp groups is $2000.
  • The resource limit for elderly or disabled Food Stamp groups is $3000.

Am I Eligible?

You can visit the Web Site for USDA Department of Food and Nutrition at www.fns.usda.gov/fns. The site includes a food stamp eligibility pre-screening tool. You can use the tool to see if you might be eligible for Food Stamps.

How Do I Apply?

  • You can file an application:
    • in person at our agency during regular business hours.
    • by mailing in a completed application
    • by faxing a completed application
  • We offer Walk-In appintments on:
    • Monday, Wednesday at 8:45 am
    • Tuesday, Thursday at 12:15 pm
    • There are no appointments on Fridays or the last Wednesday of each month
    • Appointments are conducted 1st come 1st serve
    • If you are employed and cannot come to a walk in appointment time, you can file an application at any time and we will contact you to make other arrangements
    • You can speed your applicatoin up by bringing:
      • Proof of your last 30 days income-pay stubs, child support, SSI, Disabiliity pay verification, unemployment, etc
      • Proof of citizenship for everyone-birth certificate, hospital record, etc
      • Social security card for everyone
      • Identification for everyone-driver’s license, grade card, state ID, etc

We are required to determine eligibility within 30 days of your application.
